The Wait for Jameson Williams is Over

20

The long-awaited return of Jameson Williams is officially over.  The Detroit Lions announced today that Williams has returned to practice.

The wide receiver was drafted 12th overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft.  The Lions traded up to get him, which was a move many were not expecting.  Williams suffered a torn ACL in the 2022 College Football Playoff while playing for Alabama, and has done nothing but rehab for the entirety of this season so far.

Williams played two years at Ohio State before playing his final year at Alabama.  In his time with Alabama, he caught 79 passes for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns and finished ranking fourth in the nation with 1,947 all-purpose yards. Prior to college, he won two state track and field titles, and he currently holds the Missouri state record in the 300-meter hurdles that was previously set by Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott.  Dan Campbell spoke on his speed in Monday’s press conference.

“I know this, he can run. He can run, and that’s not hard to do. You either got it or you don’t, and he’s got it. So, in that regard, he can help.”

NFL Debut

There’s currently no timetable for when Williams will make his NFL debut just yet.  Coach Campbell says the work he’s been doing in therapy is significantly different from what he does on the field, so they will have to wait and see what he can do.

With so many injuries in and out of the wide receiver room, it will be good to have another guy to rely on.  Though he has yet to throw a pass to Williams, Quarterback Jared Goff says Williams will be dangerous when it’s his time.

The Lions have a quick turnaround this week with the Thanksgiving game on Thursday.  They will face the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field at 12:30pm ET.
