The trade deadline is November 1st for the Detroit Lions to potentially move tight end T.J. Hockenson

The Detroit Lions, sitting in last place in the NFC North at 1-5, could be potential sellers at the trade deadline. Tight end T.J. Hockenson, who the Lions drafted 9th overall in 2019 out of Iowa, has his rookie contract ending in 2023. He is set to in his fifth-year, make $9.362 million next year, which is fully guarantee.

“Listen, I’m not stupid, I know what I can bring to another team and I know here that they could, if they want something, if they want to do things for the future then I’m not stupid in that sense,” Hockenson said to David Birkett of Detroit Free Press last week($)“It is a business and whatever they have to do upstairs they’re going to do. And that doesn’t — there’s no hard feelings about it. There’s no, ‘Hey, I don’t like him personally’ or anything about that. That’s just how it is. So I’m not dumb or naive in that fact.”

At the end of October last season, Hockenson had 48 catches for 448 yards but this season, just 23 catches for 315 yards. The biggest game for Hockenson this season was against Seattle, in which he caught eight passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Regardless, Detroit will need a big game from Hockenson on Sunday against a solid Dolphins secondary, led by Xavien Howard and 2021 second-round draft pick safety Jevon Holland.
