Week 4 Matchup: Lions vs. Seahawks

The Detroit Lions are heading into Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks as favorites. The two teams will battle at Ford Field tomorrow with a kick-off at 1pm ET.

Both teams come into this game 1-2 on the season so far.  Detroit is looking to bounce back after their 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, while the Seattle Seahawks are looking to recover as well following a 27-23 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Looking into the numbers, Detroit has the second-highest highest red zone efficiency, but Seattle rank fourth in the NFL for red-zone defense. This matchup will be pivotal in deciding the outcome of this game. The Detroit Lions have scored on 11 of 13 red zone drives for an 84.6% efficiency rate, while the Seahawks have held their opponents to just a 38.5% touchdown success rate in the red zone.

The Detroit Lions are still looking to click on defense.  They rank the worst in the league for points allowed per game averaging 31, and worst in the league for red zone efficiency on defense.  Dan Campbell commented on this on Friday.

“I think that when you look at a majority of the touchdowns we’ve given up have been inside the five-yard line. There’s a ton of them, especially on the one-yard line. So, one thing is don’t let them get down there, and then if you do let’s try to shut them down.”

Riddled With Injury

The Lions will be without two of their stars this weekend, running back D’Andre Swift and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.  This is a huge hit for the team as the two have produced 629 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Lions in just three games.  Swift has been ruled out with both a shoulder injury and an ankle injury.  St. Brown was ruled out with an ankle injury.

DL John Cominsky, G Jonah Jackson, and K Austin Seibert are also on the list of players who will sit Sunday’s game.  Seibert out means Dominik Eberle will have his debut as a Detroit Lion.  Wide receivers DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds are listed as questionable for the game, however, they are anticipated to play.
