Is Spencer Torkelson Back?

95

Spencer Torkelson is back in the big leagues, but the real question remains, is the real Tork back for good? You know, the former number-one overall pick who was looked at as a perennial all-star for the next decade. The question is, has Spencer Torkelson finally figured it out at the big-league level?

What Do the Numbers Say?

Numbers are everything in baseball and so far, the numbers are backing Torkelson’s resurgence in September. Since being recalled on August 31st, Tork has played in 8 games, a short sample size, but the results speak for themselves.

In those 8 games, Torkelson is 9-for-27, with hitting splits of .333/.438/.593. The strikeouts have also been down, with just 5 while also drawing 3 walks.

One stat I found via Baseball Savant that was interesting, was Torkelson had the 52nd highest Average Exit Velocity in all of MLB.

Only Time Will Tell

While it has only been 8 games for Tork back at the major league level, it’s hard not to be excited at what we have seen so far from the 23-year-old in his second stint in the majors. Torkelson is still so young, but he will be a player fans should keep their eye on as the 2022 season comes to a close.
