Amon-Ra St. Brown Stands Up for Teammate

The Detroit Lions and Brad Holmes have some big decisions to make this offseason.  The Lions Running Back situation is one of them.  Detroit can Re-Sign Jamaal Williams and can extend D’Andre Swift.

Woodward Sports took to Twitter to get the conversation going on if fans would want Swift to be extended. The question posed was “Would you like to see a new face in the Detroit Lions backfield?”

There were many replies.  Some want Swift, some don’t.  You expect this when you have a topic and a player with as much unfulfilled upside as Swift.

Amon-Ra St. Brown addressed the tweet in a forward and direct way.  One word, “No”.

D’Andre Swift only had 3 games this season when he had double digit carries. Coincidentally, he had a TD in each of those games. Swift also had solid YPC during those games. Against the Eagles in week 1, 15 carries 144 yards, 9.6 YPC and a TD.  Versus Jacksonville 14 carries, 62 yards, 4.4 YPC and a Touchdown.  Then against the Bears, 11 carries, 78 yards, 7.1 YPC and a Touchdown.

Its clear that when Swift gates the volume he is a solid running back that can still be the bell cow for the Detroit Lions.  The problem is D’Andre is often hurt and you can not rely on him week in and week out.

Swift’s teammates are sticking up for him publicly and that says a lot.  Amon-Ra St. Brown could have just scrolled by the tweet.  Whether he agreed with it or not.  But he took the time to let the public know that Swift is his guy and there is no need to switch up the backfield.

Brad Holmes will have the final say in what the 2023 Detroit Lions Running Back room will look like. But its great to see teammates supporting each other.  Speaks to the culture that is being built in the Motor City.
