WWE Smackdown 2023 Recap

55

As the Elimination Chamber PPV approaches with only four matches booked for the card, WWE Smackdown comes to us live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Could we see more potential future matches in the works? Will Jey Uso show up for his tag team title defense with his brother? Could Sami Zayn be looking for revenge following last weeks beat down? Let’s head to the ring.

The Open

Paul Heyman doesn’t make predictions he offers spoilers. He could be found in the ring holding both of Roman Reigns’ titles foreshadowing what he had planned. Nevertheless, warning Reigns two future opponents Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes. As Heyman goes on to disrespect Cody’s father Zayn appears out of nowhere behind him. Sami list off the ways Roman has manipulated him in the months leading to this and tells Heyman The Bloodline is on its way out. Before Sami leaves the ring he pulls Heyman in close for a hug. While hugging, he tells him that Roman doesn’t have to worry about Cody, he’s going to end this on his own.

Other Matches from the Night

  • Sheamus and Drew McIntyre defeat Hit Row
  • Lacey Evans defeats Cameron Harris
  • Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez defeat Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green
  • Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender’s Match-Moss defeated Mysterio, Kross and Escobar

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Title Match: The Usos (c) vs. Ricochet and Braun Strowman

Given that there were many failed attempts to contact Jey, his brother Jimmy was worried that he wouldn’t show for their title defense. However, during the announcements Jey made his way through the crowd to the ring holding his set of the tag team titles. With over 500 plus days and running as champions, Jey didn’t allow his issues with Roman to derail their success. With the brothers reunited again it seemed as if they didn’t miss a step in Jey’s absence. The Uso’s successfully retain their titles after an Uso Splash to Ricochet for the victory.

Backstage at WWE Smackdown, Jey admits to his brother that he’s still unsure if he’s with The Bloodline anymore as Heyman lurks in the background. Listening to every word between the brothers Heyman is sure to use this information to get back to the Tribal Chief. Before the night ends, Zayn and Jey have a conversation by the production trucks. Not knowing how things will end with The Bloodline Sami admits to Jey that he acknowledges him as the two embrace in a fist bump.

Final Thoughts

With only one more WWE Smackdown show left before the Elimination Chamber, certainly, I’m hopeful for a good final push towards the PPV. As of lately, smackdown shows have been a drag to sit through match wise. It seems the more interesting story comes from The Bloodline, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Unfortunately, most of those stars aren’t wrestling on Smackdown or they’re saving them for later shows. If only the WWE could bring more action to their Friday shows as they do on Monday show.
