Why is Malik Willis to the Lions a thing again?

I cannot tell you the number of people who interrupted my day by claiming the Detroit Lions made a mistake by not drafting quarterback Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft.

I did not think he was right for the Lions then and I do not think he is right for the Lions now. Even more, I even had some clowns believe he should be taken second overall instead of defensive end Aiden Hutchinson.

They believed Willis would be pressing Jared Goff for the starting job by now. Can I get one of those old-time laugh tracks inserted into this story?

I slowly turned away from these people and screamed “What you talking bout Willis?

Now why is Willis to the Lions a thing again?

Writer Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports must be one of those deranged Lions fans I battled with. With Willis on the verge of being cut by the Tennessee Titans (we think) he suggested that the Lions either trade for him or sign Willis should he be released.

Willis is fighting to stick with the Titans and get playing time. Last season he hit 50 percent of his passes for 276 yards, three interceptions and no touchdowns.

“It is definitely different from last year,” Willis said after OTAs. “I think when you have a whole year of doing something, you just get a little more comfortable doing it.”

Malik Willis to the Lions is the most hair brain idea I’ve heard in a while. There is no room or desire for Willis in the Lions quarterback room. He’s not replacing Goff. Nate Sudfeld is entrenched as the backup. And unless the Lions are blowing smoke up our ass, they say he is the perfect backup.

Trapasso said Willis can come in as a gadget quarterback. The Lions have that on hand with third-round pick Hendon Hooker. Although the Lions say Hooker will be red-shirted this year, don’t believe it. He could see action in the wildcat or be that gadget quarterback the team wants.

Besides, what do the Lions want with a quarterback who cannot beat out Will Levis for a backup job?

Maybe Trapasso didn’t get the memo that the Lions are no longer a clown show.
