Weekend Golf Report: Scheffler Wins Again

Scottie Scheffler regained control of the number one ranking in the world by winning the Players Championship on Sunday.

He nearly obliterated the field, winning by five strokes over England’s Tyrell Hatton. Norway’s Viktor Hovland and American Tom Hoge finished tied for third, seven strokes back of Scheffler.

Scheffler got off to a slow start, playing his first seven holes at one over par. He then birdied his next five holes to ensure victory.

He joins two other players to hold both the Players and Masters championships at the same time. Those other guys? Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

This was Scheffler’s sixth win on the PGA Tour in the last 13 months, all of which coming at top-notch events. Those include the Masters, Phoenix Open (twice), Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGC Match Play, and now the Players.

Paired with Scheffler on Sunday was Min Woo Lee of New Zealand. He would go on to shoot a four-over 76 and finish in a tie for sixth. I felt bad for Lee during some of the broadcast.

NBC noted on multiple occasions that his sister Minjee Lee is a successful golfer on the LPGA. And they made clear that she has won on her tour and Min Woo Lee has not on the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf is back next week as they had to Tucson. Maybe it’ll actually be on the CW this time. The PGA Tour remains in Florida for the Valspar Championship.

Here are my current golf power rankings:

  1. Scottie Scheffler
  2. Jon Rahm
  3. Max Homa
  4. Rickie Fowler Sunday orange outfit
  5. The locksmith who helped Tiger Woods lock his ex out

Local Weather Report

It’s snowing as I’m currently writing this…(sigh). Wednesday it’s supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 44 degrees. If your local course is open, that will be the best day to get out and play. Rain and cool temperatures are around for the other days this week.

Just have to give it a couple more weeks folks, and we’ll all be back out there regularly.
