Silent Hill creator’s new studio is here to scare!

Anytime a triumphant video game creator branches off from a well-known company to make their own, fans wait eagerly for the next project. Well, earlier this month, Keiichiro Toyama departed Sony Japan. He’s known as the creator and director of Silent Hill at Konami and Sony’s Gravity Rush series. Having partnered with The Last Guardian producer Kazunobu Sato and Gravity Rush game design Junya Okura, they formed Bokeh Game Studio.

The skilled team already has a new video game in mind. In an interview with IGN Japan, Toyama said the team is developing “an action-adventure game that will appeal to fans of my previous work.” He went on to add, “If anything, this will be more of a horror-oriented game. But we will focus on making this a broader entertainment experience, rather than a hardcore horror game.”

Not a hardcore horror game

Silent HIll successor PT

Silent Hill fans are no closer to receiving a spiritual successor to Silent Hill than they were when Kojima’s “PT” was. PT, otherwise known as “playable teaser,” is a first-person psychological horror teaser on the PS4. On August 12, 2014, the interactive teaser gave fans a taste of the now-canceled “Silent Hills.” It’s thanks to this teaser that gamers hold out hope for another game. Be that as it may, PT is no longer on the Playstation Network, which led to PS4’s with it still installed landing on eBay for $1000 and above.

It doesn’t help that Konami recently pulled a move that set the internet ablaze. Back in July, Konami shared the Silent Hill 2 siren on their Twitter. Immediately, fans took this as a sign that Konami would finally make their dreams come true. Realizing what rumor they just fueled, they responded by saying, “Easy there internet. We were watching streams of Dead By Daylight and thought we would share the noise and feel of being hunted.”

Not quite Silent Hill

Unfortunately, this new game’s direction doesn’t sound promising for anyone hoping for a video game in the same vein as Silent Hill. I’m no prophet, so take that with a grain of salt, in any case. Bokeh promises to keep gamers in the loop via their Twitter and Facebook pages. We’ll see their progress take shape in front of us and get more of an idea about the new game over time.

Now we wait

We know that they’re developing the game with the PC as the target, but they hope to release it on consoles. As far as a release date goes, the team is eyeing a 2023 release. Kazunobu Sato added that the game is “just entering prototype development,” so we shouldn’t expect to see many details for a while. Yet, it’s encouraging, all the same, to hear more horror-oriented video games are on the way.
