AEW Dynamite Recap 02/01/2023

72

AEW isn’t exactly the talking point of the pro wrestling world right now. With WWE putting on an incredible Royal Rumble PPV this last weekend, the fans are locked in to see what’s next.

AEW Dynamite was not bad tonight. It was just a mis-able show. Here’s a quick recap of what happened and my thoughts:

Moxley beats Hangman

AEW is clearly building towards the conclusion of this match at Revolution. While this feud is not bad per say, it does not have anything on the line for these stars to fight for. I do hope we get to see The Elite versus The Blackpool Combat Club, maybe even in a Blood and Guts match.

I expect Hangman to win at Revolution but I’m hoping we get to see these two square off again with their friends involved.

The Acclaimed vs. The Gunn Club

This to me is the most interesting AEW storyline right now. The inclusion of Billy Gunn makes this very intriguing, with the possibility of him turning on The Acclaimed.

We will see the tag team championship match next week, where I think The Acclaimed will win. But look for this feud to continue into Revolution.

Takeshita Taking on the World Champ

Konosuke Takeshita will face MJF next week on Dynamite. This is a great rub for the young star, and he built momentum tonight with a win against Brian Cage. Takeshita is a future world champion in this business, and I could see him being a singles champion in AEW in 2024.

Danielson Next’s Challenger?

Bryan Danielson defeated Timothy Thatcher on Dynamite tonight. While I think the Danielson-MJF storyline, it has become fairly predictable. We all know Danielson is not losing on Dynamite. Rush will challenge “The American Dragon” next week.

Who is Going to Beat Jade Cargill?

Jade Cargill is the most dominating champion in AEW history. One problem though, she has not viable challengers. Jade got her 50th win tonight, improving to 50-0 in her AEW career. Red Velvet did not stand much of a chance and it doesn’t look like the rest of AEW’s women division does either. Who beats JADE? Kris Statlander? Athena? Someone has too eventually. Right?

Why is Samoa Joe the TNT champion?

Why? Just why? I don’t understand the booking of the TNT Championship and that continued on Dynamite. Darby Allin was having an incredible reign as champion, but it only lasted 28 days. I love Samoa Joe but why did he need to win this match. Does Joe vs. Wardlow need the TNT Championship? It’s frustrating and Darby Allin will likely get lost in the shuffle again after this.
